Max tries to follow a resident toward a glittering spring -- but his feet stop dead. The Disconnect Curse-Master appears, brandishing a knotted controller cord like a weapon. 'I have severed that path!' he gloats. Max is stuck, frozen like a busted controller.

Then Max quietly asks: 'What about the way home? Is that severed too?' The Curse-Master's smug face crumbles. He looks genuinely puzzled. '...That one alone... I could never cut,' he mutters. Even he doesn't know why.

Why? Nobody knows. The two of them -- hero and villain -- tilt their heads in identical confusion, the resident joining in beside them. But somewhere in this strange world, a path home still exists. Why it remains unbroken is a mystery for another day.
